PAS official predicts DAP faces voter rejection in upcoming polls

A PAS official has predicted that the Democratic Action Party will face continued voter rejection in upcoming elections, arguing the trend reflects genuine public sentiment rather than orchestrated political maneuvering.

Syahir Sulaiman, a PAS representative, said the pullback against DAP is occurring "organically" among voters without direction from PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang. He suggested this organic rejection would manifest similarly in forthcoming electoral contests in Melaka and Sarawak.

The comments reflect ongoing tensions within Malaysia's opposition coalition, which has struggled to maintain unity following the 2022 general election. DAP, the largest Chinese-majority party in the coalition, has faced criticism from coalition partners over various policy and governance issues.

PAS, an Islamic party that historically rivaled DAP, has gained ground in recent years through both electoral performance and growing rural support. The party has positioned itself as an alternative to DAP's secular, urban-focused politics.

State elections in both Melaka and Sarawak are expected in coming months, making them significant tests of political sentiment across the federation's diverse regions.
