PAS, Umno Challenge DAP Over Loke's Position Before Najib Settlement

PAS and Umno have pushed back against what they characterise as conditional politics surrounding Transport Minister Anthony Loke's position in government, insisting that any question of his tenure should not be tied to arrangements involving former Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Tuan Ibrahim, president of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, stated that DAP's commitment regarding Loke should not be contingent on Najib settling a RM50 million fine or related legal matters. The remarks underscore broader tensions within Malaysia's ruling coalition over the handling of the former premier's case and ministerial accountability.

The position reflects Umno and PAS concerns that opposition parties may be using Loke's political future as leverage in negotiations over Najib's circumstances. Both parties have suggested that if there are questions about Loke's suitability to remain in his portfolio, those should be addressed on their own merits rather than as part of a package deal.

The dispute highlights fractures within Malaysia's governing alliance, where coalition partners hold differing views on how to manage high-profile political and legal issues. It remains unclear whether the government will respond directly to the demands from its own partners.
