PAS Youth Leader Urges Permanent PAS-Umno Alliance, Not Seasonal Ties
The head of PAS Youth has cautioned against treating the unity between Malaysia's two largest Malay-Muslim parties as a temporary political arrangement, insisting any partnership must be grounded in the interests of the Muslim community rather than tactical maneuvering.

PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamdan has stressed the need for a lasting commitment between PAS and Umno, warning against repeating cycles of political cooperation followed by conflict that have characterised their relationship in the past.
Afnan said the alliance between the two parties should be built on a foundation of shared religious and community interests rather than short-term political calculations. Any partnership that prioritises temporary electoral gains over genuine cooperation risks undermining trust and stability within Malaysia's Malay-Muslim political landscape, he cautioned.
The remarks come as both parties continue efforts to consolidate their position within the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition. PAS, which won significant representation in recent electoral contests, has sought closer coordination with Umno on key policy matters affecting the Muslim community.
Historically, ties between PAS and Umno have fluctuated between periods of cooperation and rivalry, often influenced by electoral considerations and leadership changes. Afnan's comments suggest PAS leadership is determined to move beyond such cycles.
