PAS Youth warns Gerakan against contesting Seberang Jaya seat

The Permatang Pauh PAS Youth chief has issued a warning to Gerakan, advising the party against pursuing the Seberang Jaya parliamentary constituency, describing it as a seat with a Malay-majority electorate.

The PAS Youth leader cited the demographic composition of the seat as a factor that would make it difficult for Gerakan to retain, pointing to the party's previous electoral performance in similar constituencies.

The warning appears to reference Gerakan's loss of the Bayan Lepas parliamentary seat, which the party previously held but lost to the opposition. The Bayan Lepas constituency shares similar voter demographics with Seberang Jaya, according to the PAS Youth assessment.

The cautionary remarks come amid ongoing discussions within the Perikatan Nasional coalition regarding parliamentary seat allocation for the upcoming electoral cycle. Seberang Jaya is located in Penang, a state where both PAS and Gerakan have significant political presence.

The statement underscores internal coalition dynamics as parties negotiate constituency boundaries and candidacy arrangements ahead of potential electoral contests.
