Pawar urges protection of Tata Group's trust-based institutional legacy

Sharad Pawar, the NCP (Sharad Pawar) president and former Maharashtra chief minister, on Tuesday emphasised the need to protect the institutional and charitable framework that has defined the Tata Group's operational philosophy for generations. In a statement posted on social media, Pawar highlighted the deep-rooted connection between the Tata Group and Maharashtra, underscoring the conglomerate's foundational commitment to using business as a vehicle for societal benefit.

Pawar stressed that preserving the Tata Group's trust-based legacy is essential to maintaining its contribution to India's broader development objectives. He called for strict adherence to the group's Articles of Association and established governance frameworks when addressing the current leadership question, advocating for resolution through dialogue and proper due process rather than unilateral action.

The former Union minister emphasised that Tata Trusts, as the majority shareholder in Tata Sons, must have its institutional rights and role respected within the existing governance structure. Pawar's intervention comes amid ongoing deliberations within the Tata Group following the September 17 board decision regarding executive leadership appointments, reflecting concerns about maintaining the organisation's foundational principles during periods of institutional transition.
