PCSO Says It Overpaid Sports Commission Following Supreme Court Order

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has transferred more funds than required to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) in compliance with a Supreme Court decision, according to PCSO Chairperson Felix Reyes. The statement came Monday as the agency addressed the implications of the high court's May 2024 ruling on the matter.

The Supreme Court's decision stemmed from a petition for mandamus filed by former lawmaker and basketball commissioner Joseller "Yeng" Guiao. The ruling required the PCSO to remit funds to the PSC, prompting the lottery agency's subsequent transfers.

Reyes indicated that the PCSO's remittances to the PSC have exceeded the amount mandated by the court order. The chairperson's comments suggest the agency may seek clarification or adjustment regarding its obligations under the Supreme Court's decision.

The development raises questions about the ongoing relationship between the two government agencies and how they will reconcile the apparent overpayment going forward. The PCSO and PSC have not yet announced plans to address the excess transfers.
