MANILA — The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) has called for the establishment of a rapid referral pathway within government agencies to swiftly respond to cases of violence against women in politics (VAWP).

Caryl Joyce Gutapia, PCW Senior Gender and Development Specialist, presented the recommendation during a House committee on women hearing on Tuesday. The proposal aims to streamline the government's response system and ensure that victims of political violence receive immediate assistance and support.

The push for an expedited referral mechanism comes as concerns mount over incidents of harassment, intimidation, and violence targeting women engaged in political activities across the country. Officials believe that establishing clear pathways and protocols will enable faster identification, documentation, and intervention in cases of VAWP.

The PCW's recommendation underscores growing recognition of the barriers women face when participating in politics and the need for institutional reforms to protect their rights and safety. Authorities have indicated they will continue working with relevant government bodies to develop and implement the proposed framework.
