LEGAZPI CITY — Naga City's annual Traslacion procession of Our Lady of Peñafrancia unfolded peacefully Friday, welcoming more than 800,000 worshippers for one of the region's largest religious festivals. The centuries-old tradition, which honors the patroness of Bicol, proceeded smoothly under heightened security arrangements designed to accommodate the massive crowds while ensuring public safety.
Police personnel were stationed along the entire procession route, where officers employed various crowd management tools including informational placards and megaphone announcements. Authorities also implemented Oplan Bandillo, a community policing initiative aimed at preventing crimes and maintaining peace during large public gatherings.
The orderly conduct of the event reflected intensive planning and coordination between local authorities and religious organizers. The Traslacion, which involves the ceremonial movement of the religious image through Naga City's streets, remains a defining cultural and spiritual event for the Bicol region and attracts devotees from across the Philippines and beyond.
