The world No. 4 Malaysian duo made a promising start to their quarterfinal encounter but ultimately fell short against their Japanese rivals in a closely contested match on the Paris clay courts. Despite their strong opening performance, Pearly and Thinaah were unable to maintain their momentum through the deciding sets as Matsumoto and Fukushima rallied to secure victory.
The loss marks a significant disappointment for the Malaysian pair, who were eyeing a return to the French Open final following their previous success at the tournament. Their exit from the women's doubles competition comes as both players continue their pursuit of further Grand Slam honours.
Matsubara and Fukushima's victory advances them to the semifinals, where they will face stiff competition from the tournament's remaining contenders. For Pearly and Thinaah, the focus will now shift to upcoming tournaments as they look to regain momentum in the international doubles circuit.
