The People's Movement for Indigenous Peoples' Rights (Peka) has intensified pressure on the federal government to address what it views as significant delays in the formal recognition and gazettement of Orang Asli traditional lands. The organisation has questioned the pace of land title processing, which it attributes to governance lapses within state administrations. According to Peka spokesperson Rajesh, the responsibility for these delays rests squarely with state governments, which have failed to expedite the necessary procedures for land recognition. The advocacy group emphasised that prolonged delays in gazettement undermine efforts to secure indigenous land rights and protect communities from potential land disputes or encroachment. Peka has called for the federal government to intervene and establish clearer timelines and accountability measures to accelerate the gazettement process, ensuring that Orang Asli communities receive formal recognition of their ancestral lands without further bureaucratic impediment.
