GEORGE TOWN — Penang International Airport (PIA) continued normal operations on Monday, unaffected by haze conditions that have disrupted air travel in other parts of Southeast Asia, airport authorities said. The airport experienced no significant flight delays or cancellations, with passenger movement proceeding as scheduled throughout the day. This contrasts with disruptions reported at Jakarta's airports, where haze-related visibility issues led to the cancellation of several flights. PIA officials attributed the airport's smooth operation to favourable local weather conditions and adequate visibility levels for safe aircraft operations. The airport's air quality index remained within acceptable parameters, allowing regular runway operations and ground handling activities to proceed without interruption. Travellers using the airport faced no mass stranding or extended delays, with check-in and boarding processes functioning normally. Airlines operating flights to and from PIA reported no weather-related diversions or cancellations. Airport management said it continues to monitor atmospheric conditions closely and maintains contingency protocols in case haze levels deteriorate. The airport remains operational for both domestic and international flights, with no current advisory restrictions in place for aircraft movements.
