Penang Assembly undergoes RM1.5m upgrade with heritage and modern facilities

GEORGE TOWN — The Penang State Legislative Assembly has unveiled an upgraded facility following a RM1.5 million facelift aimed at modernising the state parliament while preserving its heritage value. The renovation project incorporates several key improvements designed to better serve lawmakers and visitors to the historic institution.

Among the new additions is a dedicated heritage gallery that showcases the legislative assembly's historical significance and contributions to Penang's political development. The facility also features a lactation room, addressing the needs of nursing mothers visiting or working at the state parliament, reflecting contemporary workplace standards and family-friendly policies.

The enhancement programme further includes upgrades to the media area, providing improved facilities for journalists covering state assembly proceedings. These modifications aim to facilitate better documentation and dissemination of legislative activities to the public.

The renovation represents the state government's commitment to maintaining the assembly building's relevance as both a functional legislative venue and a repository of Penang's political heritage. Officials indicated that the improvements were designed to create a more inclusive and efficient environment for assembly operations while respecting the building's historical character.
