Penang boat operators seek state help over bridge fishing restrictions

Boat operators affected by fishing restrictions at Penang's bridges have turned to the state government for intervention, citing concerns over their economic sustainability. State executive councillor Rashidi Zinol acknowledged the appeal during recent discussions, signalling the state's willingness to engage with all stakeholders on the matter. "We will hold discussions to seek a balanced approach that takes into account the livelihoods of those involved," Zinol stated, indicating that state government consideration of the issue is underway.

The fishing bans at the bridges were implemented to address safety and infrastructure concerns, but have created hardship for operators who depend on these fishing grounds.
