Penang businessman Tan loses libel appeal against state chief minister
The Court of Appeal has upheld a High Court decision dismissing a libel suit brought by Penang businessman Tan Kok Ping against Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, ordering the plaintiff to pay RM50,000 in costs.

PUTRAJAYA — The Court of Appeal has rejected an appeal by prominent Penang businessman Tan Kok Ping in his libel case against Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, affirming the High Court's earlier dismissal of the suit.
In its decision, the appellate court ruled against Tan's challenge and ordered him to bear legal costs of RM50,000, according to court proceedings concluded here on Monday.
The case centred on allegations made by Tan against the state chief minister, which the courts found insufficient to support a libel claim. The High Court's dismissal of the suit has now been upheld at the appellate level, closing the legal chapter on the dispute.
The decision represents a significant outcome in the defamation matter and concludes the businessman's attempt to overturn the earlier court judgment through the appeals process.
