Penang coastal highway to close lanes for elevated U-turn construction
Motorists using Penang's coastal highway should prepare for significant lane closures spanning nearly five months as construction work progresses on a new elevated U-turn facility. The rightmost lanes will be unavailable from mid-October through late February.
LSN Malaysia ·

The Penang State Public Works Corporation has announced extended lane closures on the coastal highway to facilitate completion of an elevated U-turn structure. Beginning October 12, the rightmost lanes of the highway will be sequentially closed, with work continuing until February 28 next year.
The new elevated U-turn is designed to improve traffic flow and provide safer turning opportunities for vehicles along the busy coastal route. The extended closure timeline reflects the complexity of constructing the elevated structure while maintaining traffic flow on the remaining lanes.
Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes or allow additional travel time during the closure period. The state authorities have not indicated whether traffic management measures, such as temporary lane reductions or temporary traffic light controls, will be implemented to mitigate congestion during peak hours.
Commuters and commercial operators relying on the coastal highway should monitor official announcements from Penang State Public Works Corporation for any updates or changes to the construction schedule.
