Penang council halts condominium project after fatal landslide

The Penang Municipal Council (MBPP) has ordered a halt to construction on a condominium project in the Paya Terubong area after a landslide claimed lives at the development site.

The council has directed the project developer to immediately undertake mitigation work at the site to prevent further incidents and stabilize the affected area. The suspension remains in effect pending completion of these safety measures.

In addition to the emergency mitigation efforts, MBPP has mandated that a comprehensive environmental impact assessment be conducted specifically for the affected zone. The new study is expected to identify potential geological and environmental risks that may have contributed to the landslide.

The incident has raised concerns about construction practices and site safety protocols in the area. Authorities are expected to review conditions before any approval is granted for the project to resume operations.
