Penang official defends Tanjung Bungah park plan amid fresh protests

A Penang state executive councillor has defended the Tanjung Bungah park development plan, asserting that authorities have accommodated most concerns raised by residents despite fresh protests against the project.

Zairil Khir Johari indicated that of multiple requests submitted by the community, all but one have been met during the planning process. The statement comes as residents staged another demonstration opposing the scheme, signalling continued discord over the project's merits.

The exco member's comments raise questions about whose interests the development ultimately serves, with residents maintaining their objections to the proposal. The nature of the unmet request and specific accommodations made remain unclear from official statements to date.

The Tanjung Bungah park plan has emerged as a contentious issue in Penang, with residents expressing concerns about its environmental and social impact. Authorities have indicated willingness to engage with community feedback, though the impasse over one outstanding demand suggests negotiations remain unresolved.
