GEORGE TOWN — Commuters and motorists travelling through George Town should prepare for intermittent traffic disruptions as the Mutiara Line construction project enters a critical phase. MRT Corporation has announced that partial lane closures will be implemented on Jalan Tun Dr Awang and Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim from August 20 through October 31.
The affected routes serve as major thoroughfares in the state capital, and the staggered closure schedule is designed to balance construction requirements with traffic flow management. The project team will rotate closure periods to minimise congestion during peak commuting hours where feasible.
Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and allow additional travel time during the closure period. Real-time traffic updates and further details regarding specific closure dates and times are expected to be made available through MRT Corp's official channels and local traffic authorities.
The Mutiara Line project represents a significant infrastructure investment for Penang's public transportation network. Stakeholders have emphasised that the temporary disruptions are necessary to advance construction timelines and ultimately enhance regional mobility once the line becomes operational.
