Penang slope shows no fresh collapse signs but monitoring continues

The Penang Municipal Council (MBPP) has determined that the slope at Taman Seri Permai currently displays no visible signs of renewed collapse risk, according to Datuk Bandar A Rajendran, the council's president.

Despite the reassessment, MBPP emphasized that intensive monitoring protocols will remain in effect across the affected area. Officials cited persistent rainfall as a significant concern, warning that sustained precipitation could gradually weaken the soil structure and potentially trigger a recurrence of slope failure in the vicinity.

The council's cautious approach reflects standard procedure for managing landslide-prone areas in Malaysia's monsoon climate. Continuous observation of ground conditions, soil moisture levels, and structural movements will help identify any warning signs before they develop into critical instability.

Residents in the Taman Seri Permai area are advised to remain alert and report any observed changes in ground conditions or drainage patterns to local authorities immediately. MBPP has not specified a timeline for maintaining heightened surveillance at the location.
