Penang Umno denies backing Rashidi's call for PH-BN cooperation
The Penang chapter of Umno has distanced itself from a recent statement by one of its members calling for cooperation between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional. The party says no official decision has been made on the matter.

Penang Umno Youth Chief Hilmi Elias clarified on Friday that remarks made by party member Rashidi regarding potential collaboration between PH and BN do not represent the official stance of the state party leadership.
Hilmi stated that the party has not convened any meeting to discuss or make a formal decision on future political cooperation arrangements. He emphasised that no official position has been adopted on the matter, suggesting that Rashidi's comments were made in a personal capacity.
The clarification comes as political analysts continue to monitor shifting coalition dynamics in Malaysia's complex political landscape. Cooperation between the two major political blocs remains a sensitive topic given the country's recent political history and ongoing power-sharing arrangements at federal and state levels.
Penang has been under PH administration since 2018, while Umno remains part of the federal BN coalition. The potential for dialogue between the two blocs continues to generate speculation among political observers, though party officials have maintained that any such arrangements require formal endorsement from party leadership.
