Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government is taking a measured approach to the Paya Terubong landslide incident, prioritising the outcomes of the ongoing investigation before establishing a soil committee to oversee remedial measures. The decision reflects the government's intent to base its response on concrete findings rather than proceeding with administrative structures prematurely. The Committee of Inquiry, also known as JKKP, is tasked with determining the root causes of the landslide and providing evidence-based recommendations for prevention and mitigation strategies. Chow indicated that once the inquiry committee submits its detailed findings, the state administration will be better positioned to formulate an appropriate institutional framework to address soil-related hazards in Penang. The landslide incident at Paya Terubong has prompted heightened scrutiny on geotechnical risks across the state, with residents and stakeholders closely monitoring the investigation's progress.
