PepsiCo India has inaugurated its fifth food manufacturing plant in Assam, marking a substantial commitment to expanding production capacity in the Northeast. The state-of-the-art facility, spread across 44.2 acres in Nalbari district, represents an investment of ₹778 crore and will focus on manufacturing the company's flagship snack brands Lay's and Uncle Chipps.
The production facility is expected to generate direct and indirect employment for approximately 700 individuals while supporting agricultural operations across the region. The plant will serve as a significant source of livelihood for over 5,000 farmers engaged in supplying raw materials, particularly potatoes and other key ingredients essential for snack production.
The Nalbari plant underscores PepsiCo's strategic expansion in India's eastern regions, where growing consumer demand for packaged snacks presents considerable opportunities. The facility will enhance the company's supply chain efficiency and reduce distribution costs to northeastern markets while contributing to local economic development through employment generation and agricultural linkages.
The manufacturing unit incorporates modern production technology and quality standards, positioning PepsiCo to better serve the expanding consumer base in Assam and neighbouring states.
