IPOH — Lawmakers in the Perak Legislative Assembly have given their approval for Mohamad Hairul, chairman of the Perak branch of the People's Justice Party (PKR), to take up a position in the Malaysian Senate.

The motion to appoint Hairul to the upper house of Parliament secured the support of 33 members of the state assembly during proceedings held in Ipoh on Wednesday. The approval marks a significant development for the PKR politician within Perak's political landscape.

The Senate appointment comes as part of the ongoing process through which state assemblies nominate candidates for the upper house. Senators appointed through this channel serve to represent their respective states at the federal level.

Hairul's elevation to the Senate reflects the PKR's continued presence within Perak's political structure, where the party maintains influence through both state and federal representation.
