Perikatan Nasional faces challenge finding PM candidate to rival Anwar

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition faces a significant hurdle in identifying a prime ministerial candidate with sufficient stature to compete effectively against Anwar Ibrahim, according to a senior PAS official.

Fadhli Md Salleh, the PAS information chief, conceded that the opposition bloc must elevate a leader capable of countering the Prime Minister's considerable political pull, especially among Malaysia's youth demographic.

The acknowledgment underscores growing pressure on PN to strengthen its political positioning ahead of potential electoral contests. The coalition, comprising PAS, Bersatu, and other parties, has struggled to consolidate around a single candidate capable of challenging Anwar's current standing.

Anwar's government, formed through the Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional alliance, has maintained control despite internal tensions. The opposition's capacity to mount an effective challenge remains complicated by questions of internal cohesion and the ability to present a unified, attractive alternative to voters.

PAS, as PN's dominant component, continues playing a central role in shaping the coalition's electoral strategy and candidate selection process.
