Perikatan Nasional signals Melaka state election within two months
The opposition coalition's chairman has instructed party machinery to prepare for a snap poll in the southern state, while coalition partner PAS confirms ongoing seat negotiations with Barisan Nasional.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership has signalled that a state election in Melaka could take place within the next two months, prompting the coalition to mobilise its ground operations in preparation for an early poll.
Coalition chairman Samsuri Mohamad directed PN's machinery to begin readying themselves for the anticipated election, according to sources close to the development. The move comes as political tensions in the state remain elevated following the collapse of the previous Barisan Nasional-led government.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang confirmed that seat-sharing discussions with Barisan Nasional are progressing, suggesting PN may contest the election in an expanded alliance. However, details of the proposed pact remain unclear, with negotiations apparently still in preliminary stages.
The Melaka state assembly was dissolved in October 2022, triggering the most recent election in that year. A fresh poll would represent significant political activity in the strategically important state, which has experienced considerable government instability over recent years. Both coalitions are reportedly bracing for a competitive campaign should elections be formally announced.
