Periyar Tiger Reserve yields six previously unknown species

Researchers conducting a comprehensive faunal survey at Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala have expanded the reserve's species inventory with the discovery of six previously undocumented fauna during a four-day field assessment.

The survey identified one new bird species, one butterfly species, and four odonate species—a group of insects that includes dragonflies and damselflies—that had not been previously recorded within the reserve's boundaries. The findings add to the growing body of knowledge about the biodiversity of one of India's premier tiger reserves.
