The Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) has elevated its Employment Insurance System (EIS) benefits to RM25,000, marking a significant expansion of its support mechanisms for jobseekers across Malaysia. The move represents Perkeso's commitment to providing comprehensive financial assistance during employment transitions, particularly as labour market uncertainties persist across the region.
Under the revised benefit structure, eligible workers can now access substantially higher payouts when facing job loss or career disruptions. The increase reflects recognition of rising living costs and the need for more robust income replacement during unemployment spells. Perkeso officials outlined the enhancement during an announcement in Kota Bharu, underscoring the organisation's proactive approach to worker welfare.
The EIS programme, which operates as a contributory insurance scheme, provides dual benefits through income replacement and skills development support. The enhanced benefit level is designed to bridge the financial gap for retrenched workers while they seek new employment opportunities. The scheme continues to prioritise both short-term financial relief and longer-term employability improvements.
Workers currently contributing to the EIS system may qualify for the increased benefits upon meeting specified eligibility criteria. Perkeso has encouraged affected workers to familiarise themselves with updated claim procedures and documentation requirements. The organisation maintains regional offices throughout Malaysia to facilitate benefit applications and provide employment counselling services.
