Pernod Ricard, the world's second-largest spirits company, posted double-digit sales expansion in India during the first quarter of financial year 2027, underscoring the country's significance as its second-biggest market globally after the United States.
The growth trajectory reflects "strong demand and continuing premiumisation" amid "dynamic consumer fundamentals" in the Indian market, according to the company's earnings statement released Thursday. Sales gains were distributed across Pernod Ricard's portfolio, with imported spirits posting "very strong double-digit growth." Flagship brands including Jameson, Absolut and Ballantine's led the charge, while domestic whiskey labels Royal Stag and Blenders Pride from the Seagram's range also achieved double-digit expansion.
Pernod Ricard's board-approved financial year runs from July 1 to June 30. The company remains in preliminary discussions regarding a potential initial public offering on the Indian bourses, with the proposal still pending formal board approval. According to the company, preparatory steps for the mooted IPO have generated positive market momentum that has contributed to current sales performance.
India's spirits market has emerged as a key growth engine for international liquor conglomerates, driven by rising incomes, urbanisation and growing consumer preference for premium brands among affluent demographics across major metropolitan centres.
