Petition filed to scrap Electronics City Flyover toll after concession ends

A petition has been filed seeking the removal of toll collection on Bangalore's Electronics City Flyover following the expiration of its current concession agreement. The 10-kilometre elevated highway, which spans Hosur Road between Bommanahalli near the Central Silk Board and Electronics City, has been operational for over a decade.
The flyover project was initiated in 2006 and opened to the public on January 22, 2010, significantly reducing travel time for commuters in the densely populated industrial corridor. However, the imposition of tolls has remained a source of friction among daily users and resident associations.
With the concession period approaching its conclusion, stakeholders are now pushing for the state government to take back full control of the facility and terminate toll collection. Supporters of the petition argue that the infrastructure, having been funded through public resources and developed for the public good, should operate toll-free once the private operator's contract ends.
The Electronics City corridor remains one of Bangalore's crucial commercial and industrial zones, handling substantial daily traffic from numerous IT companies and manufacturing units. The outcome of the petition could set a precedent for toll management on other public infrastructure projects in the region.
