Petronet LNG Limited and Gruner Renewable have established a 50:50 joint venture to develop compressed biogas (CBG) production facilities nationwide, according to official announcements. The partnership will deploy ₹1,200 crore to construct 10 CBG plants across India with a combined operational capacity of 180 tonnes per day.
The initiative underscores Petronet LNG's strategic pivot towards renewable and sustainable energy solutions. Compressed biogas, produced from organic waste and agricultural residue, offers a cleaner alternative to conventional fossil fuels and aligns with India's broader decarbonisation objectives.
The joint venture will leverage Petronet LNG's established infrastructure expertise and market positioning alongside Gruner Renewable's technical capabilities in biogas technology. The planned facilities are expected to contribute meaningfully to India's renewable energy portfolio while creating opportunities in waste-to-energy conversion.
This partnership reflects growing investor confidence in India's biogas sector, which continues to attract both domestic and international capital. The CBG plants are likely to benefit from supportive government policies aimed at promoting renewable alternatives and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
