Pfizer reaffirms commitment to patient safety after Karnataka drug crackdown
Pharmaceutical major Pfizer has emphasised its unwavering commitment to patient safety and product quality following regulatory action by Karnataka's health authorities against counterfeit drug distributors. The company said it has been actively supporting investigations into the circulation of spurious medicines.

Pfizer said on Tuesday that patient safety and product quality remain its highest priorities, responding to enforcement action by the Karnataka Food and Drug Administration (FDA) against dealers suspected of distributing fake medicines.
The state regulator took action on Sunday, cancelling 16 retail and wholesale drug licenses and suspending eight others in connection with the alleged distribution and sale of counterfeit products. The crackdown underscores growing concerns about spurious pharmaceuticals in the market.
The company stated it has been collaborating closely with authorities for the past month since the issue came to light. "We have taken several actions to support the investigation, including removing from the market Pfizer batches where batch numbers were copied by counterfeiters to avoid confusion," the company said in a statement.
Pfizer added that it has been working to help differentiate between original and counterfeit products, while providing technical assistance and relevant information to aid the investigation. The company's proactive measures reflect the pharmaceutical industry's broader efforts to combat the growing menace of spurious drugs in India.
