PhilHealth expands TB drug access through GAMOT program

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) announced an expansion of its Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment (GAMOT) program to include selected first-line anti-tuberculosis medicines, effective November 1. The move seeks to increase access to essential TB drugs for eligible patients with confirmed diagnoses, according to PhilHealth Circular No. 2026-0018.

The expanded benefit package will allow PhilHealth members to access prescribed TB medications through the GAMOT program, reducing out-of-pocket expenses for treatment. The initiative targets patients requiring standard anti-TB regimens, addressing gaps in medication affordability that have historically challenged TB treatment adherence in the Philippines.

PhilHealth's expansion of TB drug coverage reflects efforts to strengthen the country's tuberculosis control program. By integrating anti-TB medicines into the outpatient medication benefit, the program aims to support the National TB Elimination Program's objectives and reduce barriers to sustained treatment among confirmed TB cases.
