PhilHealth widens TB drug coverage under Gamot program

MANILA — The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) is broadening its pharmaceutical assistance for tuberculosis patients by expanding coverage of selected first-line anti-TB drugs under the Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment (Gamot) program. The expanded benefit package takes effect on November 1, according to PhilHealth Circular No. 2026-0018.

The expansion is designed to strengthen access to essential TB medicines for eligible patients under PhilHealth coverage. By including more first-line antituberculosis medications, the program seeks to reduce out-of-pocket expenses for patients undergoing TB treatment while ensuring continuity of care in outpatient settings.

PhilHealth's move aligns with national efforts to combat tuberculosis, which remains a significant public health challenge in the Philippines. Improving medication access through insurance coverage programs is a key strategy to support patients in completing their full TB treatment courses, ultimately improving cure rates and reducing drug resistance.

Eligible patients can access the expanded benefit through accredited healthcare facilities and partner establishments of PhilHealth. The program details and list of covered medicines are available through PhilHealth's official channels and healthcare providers nationwide.
