The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) has activated heightened alert protocols at airports nationwide in preparation for the seasonal surge in passenger traffic during Undas, the Filipino tradition of visiting departed loved ones. The alert status commenced Thursday, October 29, and will remain in place through Tuesday, November 3, encompassing the peak travel period.
The measure is part of the Department of Transportation's broader operational strategy to manage airport congestion and ensure passenger safety during one of the year's busiest travel seasons. Caap coordinates with airport operators and airline partners to streamline check-in procedures, enhance security screening, and manage ground transportation during the period.
Airports typically experience significant capacity pressures during Undas as travelers journey to provincial cemeteries and family gatherings. The heightened alert status enables airport authorities to deploy additional personnel, activate contingency procedures, and monitor passenger flow in real time to prevent bottlenecks and maintain operational efficiency.
The Department of Transportation has urged passengers to arrive at airports earlier than usual and check flight schedules in advance. Travelers are advised to book flights and accommodations early and remain updated on any advisories issued by Caap or their respective airlines throughout the holiday period.
