SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur — The Philippine Army's 4th Infantry Division has credited civilian tips with helping government forces intercept New People's Army (NPA) movements in the region, following armed encounters in Barangay Bakingking, Esperanza, on September 10.
Joint Task Force Diamond and the 4ID said that advance warning from local residents allowed military units to rapidly deploy and engage the insurgent group before it could consolidate positions in the area. The timely intelligence prevented the NPA from establishing a stronger operational foothold in Agusan del Sur, according to military officials.
The encounters marked a significant success for counterinsurgency operations in the province, demonstrating how community awareness and cooperation can enhance security force effectiveness.
