ILIGAN CITY — Four Sabrah ASCOD II light tanks have arrived in Mindanao, bolstering the Philippine Army's armored combat and security operations in the region. The tanks were received at the Philippine Ports Authority complex here, according to Brig. Gen. Bernardo Taqueban, commander of the Army's 2nd Mechanized Infantry "Magbalantay" Brigade.

The delivery marks a significant enhancement to the Army's mechanized capabilities, particularly for operations in Mindanao, where the brigade is stationed. The Sabrah platform is designed for rapid deployment and tactical flexibility in varied terrain.

The 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade, based in Iligan City, is responsible for security operations across a significant portion of Mindanao. The addition of the light tanks is expected to improve the brigade's capacity to respond to security challenges and maintain stability in the region.

The arrival of the vehicles underscores the Armed Forces' ongoing modernization efforts to upgrade its equipment and combat readiness. Military officials have emphasized the importance of such acquisitions in addressing contemporary security threats across the archipelago.
