A joint maritime law enforcement operation in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, resulted in the arrest of four men and the seizure of contraband cigarettes valued at around 2.3 million pesos on Wednesday morning, according to authorities. The interception took place in Barangay White Beach as part of ongoing coast guard and police patrols targeting smuggling activities in Philippine waters. The Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office confirmed the operation and the recovery of the suspected illicit goods. The four arrested individuals remain in custody pending investigation and the filing of appropriate charges related to smuggling and customs violations. The confiscated cigarettes have been turned over to customs authorities for documentation and disposition in accordance with existing protocols. Philippine law enforcement agencies have intensified maritime patrols along the Mindanao coast in recent months to address the persistent problem of cigarette smuggling, which deprives the government of substantial tax revenues and fuels organized crime networks in the region.
