CALAPAN CITY — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has ruled out petroleum contamination as the source of dark-colored water and unpleasant odors affecting portions of the Mamburao coastline in Occidental Mindoro. PCG Station Occidental Mindoro conducted a thorough on-site investigation after residents reported the discoloration and smell in Barangay Talabaan.
Following their inspection, coast guard officials determined that an oil spill was not responsible for the water discoloration and odors detected in the area. The PCG's findings have been released to address public concerns over potential marine pollution along the region's shoreline.
The investigation represents part of the coast guard's broader mandate to monitor coastal waters and respond to reports of environmental hazards. Authorities did not provide details regarding alternative explanations for the discolored water and foul smell in their preliminary assessment.
