The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) released necropsy findings on Tuesday confirming electrocution as the cause of death for a Philippine Eagle discovered near an electrical post in Barangay Guinalaban, Salay, Misamis Oriental, on October 1.

The deceased bird, a female estimated at approximately five years of age, bore burn marks indicating contact with electrical wires. The examination revealed no other external injuries, suggesting the electrocution was the sole cause of death.

The discovery underscores ongoing concerns about infrastructure hazards facing the critically endangered Philippine Eagle, one of the world's rarest birds of prey. Power lines and electrical posts have been identified as significant threats to the species, particularly in areas where eagles hunt and perch.

The PEF, which works to protect and conserve the Philippine Eagle through research, breeding programs, and habitat preservation, has not yet announced whether it will undertake further investigations into the incident or recommend safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
