MANILA — Lawmakers in the Philippines have moved to address growing workplace safety concerns stemming from climate change by sponsoring House Bill No. 10559, which proposes comprehensive protections for workers exposed to climate-related hazards.
The measure, filed under Committee Report No. 552 by the House Committee on Labor and Employment, aims to enhance the country's Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) framework by integrating climate-adaptive strategies. Proponents argue that as extreme weather events become increasingly frequent, workers in agriculture, construction, and outdoor sectors face mounting risks that current safety regulations do not adequately address.
