Philippine Navy seizes nearly P398M in contraband cigarettes off Sulu

The Naval Command Western Mindanao (NCWM) executed the successful interception operations between October 29 and November 1, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The multi-day campaign targeted illicit tobacco smuggling activities in waters off Sulu, a known transit route for contraband goods destined for Philippine markets.

In addition to the substantial cigarette haul, naval personnel apprehended several motorized craft suspected of involvement in the smuggling operations. Officials indicated that the seized vessels would be processed according to maritime law enforcement protocols.

The operations underscore ongoing efforts by the Philippine Navy to combat smuggling networks operating in the country's strategic western maritime regions. The interception comes amid broader initiatives by government agencies to curtail the flow of illicit goods through Philippine waters and enforce customs regulations.
