Police conducted the enforcement action in Matampay village, Marantao town, Lanao del Sur on Friday as part of intensified efforts to combat illegal cigarette trafficking in the region. The operation was carried out jointly by the CIDG Lanao del Sur Provincial Field Unit and the Marantao Municipal Police Station.

Four suspects were taken into custody in connection with the smuggling operation. The confiscated cigarette stock, valued at approximately P15.29 million, has been turned over to authorities for disposition in accordance with Philippine customs and excise regulations.

The seizure reflects ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating contraband trade through the southern Philippines. Smuggled cigarettes deprive the government of substantial tax revenue while undercutting legitimate retailers and tobacco manufacturers operating within the country.

The arrested individuals are expected to face charges related to the violation of customs and tax laws. Authorities indicated that the investigation into the smuggling network remains ongoing as officials work to identify other individuals potentially involved in the operation.
