Philippine security forces launch major earthquake response drill in Manila

MANILA — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) launched a coordinated three-day training exercise Wednesday to assess their readiness for large-scale earthquake disasters.
The "Pagsasanay Sanlakas" drill, conducted in Manila, will test the three services' ability to execute search and rescue operations and coordinate emergency response protocols in the event of a major seismic event.
The exercise represents a significant effort to strengthen interagency coordination among the country's primary security and emergency response organizations. Officials said the drill aims to identify gaps in current procedures and improve communication channels between the PCG, AFP and PNP during high-stress disaster scenarios.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it highly vulnerable to earthquakes. Regular drills and preparedness exercises are considered critical components of the nation's disaster management strategy.
