MANILA — Senator Loren Legarda filed Senate Resolution No. 759 on Friday, calling for a legislative investigation into allegations that animal remains were unlawfully dumped in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
The resolution targets Ahjay Paws Aftercare Pet Crematorium, located in Bacoor City, Cavite. Reports indicate the facility may have failed to properly dispose of cremated remains of dogs and cats entrusted to its care by pet owners throughout the region.
The inquiry aims to determine whether pet owners were deceived regarding the handling and final disposition of their animals' remains. Legarda's resolution seeks to establish the scope of the alleged practice and identify any regulatory lapses that may have enabled the operation.
The Senate probe will examine compliance with existing regulations governing pet cremation services and may recommend legislative measures to strengthen oversight of the industry and protect consumers. The resolution's approval would trigger a formal Senate committee investigation into the matter.
