Community members in Barangay Manil, Leon B. Postigo town, Zamboanga del Norte, discovered the distressed Philippine serpent eagle (Spilornis holospilus) on Wednesday, October 7, after observing it fall repeatedly to the ground throughout the day. Recognizing the bird's deteriorating condition, residents immediately alerted local environment officials.
The Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) responded to the call and took the bird into official custody for assessment and care. The Philippine serpent eagle is a protected species endemic to the Philippines, making its preservation a priority for conservation efforts in the region.
