MANILA – Philippine authorities have arrested about 50 alleged online "groomers" who were reportedly planning coordinated attacks on schools, according to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla. The arrests came in response to escalating threats following a school shooting incident in Banga, South Cotabato. Remulla stated that law enforcement identified and disrupted 53 planned school shooting incidents in the province during a critical period, preventing what officials characterized as a coordinated threat. "That night, that week there were 53 planned school shootings in South Cotabato, all of which we stopped," Remulla said. The arrests represent a significant security operation targeting individuals accused of using online platforms to recruit and coordinate potential attackers. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the specific methods used by the alleged groomers or the extent of their suspected coordination. The operation underscores growing concerns about the use of social media and online platforms to organize real-world violence, particularly targeting educational institutions in the Philippines.
