Philippines authorities seize P2.2M in smuggled cigarettes off Sultan Kudarat

Law enforcement personnel from the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Coast Guard intercepted an unregistered motorized banca during a joint patrol operation on Tuesday, October 27, in the waters surrounding Kalamansig municipality in Sultan Kudarat province. The interception took place at approximately 4:30 p.m. following intelligence reports regarding an abandoned vessel in the area.

Authorities recovered a substantial quantity of suspected smuggled cigarettes from the vessel, with authorities valuing the contraband at P2.2 million. The cigarettes were assessed to have entered the country illegally, circumventing customs duties and tax obligations.

The operation represents ongoing efforts by Philippine authorities to combat cigarette smuggling through coastal areas. Officials regularly conduct joint patrols between maritime law enforcement and police units to intercept contraband shipments destined for illegal distribution networks.

The seizure has been documented, and appropriate legal proceedings are expected to follow. No arrests were immediately reported in connection with the operation.
