MANILA — The northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, is forecast to arrive in the Philippines within the final week of October, bringing cooler and drier atmospheric conditions across the archipelago.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) indicated Tuesday that the seasonal weather system is expected to commence between October 22 and October 30. The announcement came during a briefing by Ana Liza Solis, chief of PAGASA's Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section.
The amihan season typically ushers in a period of reduced rainfall and lower temperatures for much of the country, particularly in northern and central regions. The onset of the northeast monsoon marks a significant shift in the Philippines' weather patterns as it transitions from the warmer, wetter months.
Meteorology officials have advised residents and disaster management authorities to monitor weather updates as the monsoon approaches. PAGASA continues to track atmospheric conditions to refine forecasts on the exact timing of the seasonal transition.
