Philippines braces for heavy rains across Luzon, Visayas

Heavy rainfall is forecast to persist across parts of Luzon and the Visayas until Thursday, Sept. 10, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday. The precipitation is attributed to the ongoing influence of the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, which continues to affect weather patterns across the country.

According to Pagasa's 5 p.m. weather advisory, affected areas can expect rainfall accumulations ranging between 100 to 200 millimeters during the forecast period. The agency has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant for potential flooding and landslides as the wet weather continues.

The southwest monsoon typically brings abundant moisture during the latter months of the year, creating conditions conducive to heavy downpours across western and central portions of the Philippine archipelago. Residents and local government units in affected regions are urged to monitor weather updates closely and prepare necessary precautions.
