Philippines confirms envoy to Brunei, 35 AFP senior officers

MANILA – The Commission on Appointments gave its seal of approval Friday to the nomination of Renato Ner Dueñas Jr. as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Negara Brunei Darussalam, the Philippine government's top diplomatic representative to the Southeast Asian nation.

Dueñas, who holds the rank of Chief of Mission, will represent Philippine interests in Brunei and oversee the country's diplomatic missions in the sultanate. His confirmation comes as part of a broader batch of approvals affecting the nation's defense establishment.

Alongside Dueñas's confirmation, the Commission on Appointments also ratified the appointments and nominations of 35 generals, flag officers, and other senior officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The approvals represent significant personnel moves within the military hierarchy and come at a time when the AFP continues operations across multiple fronts in the nation's defense and security agenda.

The Commission on Appointments, a constitutional body composed of members of Congress, holds the power to confirm or reject nominations made by the President for key government positions, including diplomatic posts and senior military appointments.
